82 projects for the construction and commissioning of stand-alone electricity storage facilities with a total value of BGN 1 149 013 428.49 will be financed under the RESTORE procedure. The total usable energy storage capacity of the facilities is 9712.89 MWh.
The news was published on the website of the Ministry of Energy on 17 April 2025, just before the Easter holidays, summarising the results of the completed evaluation of the investment proposals received under procedure BG-RRP-4.0034 “National infrastructure for storage of electricity from renewable sources” (RESTORE), funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).
The ministry reminds that by the deadline for submission of project proposals – 05.12.2024, a total of 151 proposals were received, 118 of them with a total value of BGN 1 638 377 306.28 were admitted for ranking.
The available financial resource under the procedure is 1 153 939 700 BGN. 30 projects for which funding is not available are included in the list of reserve proposals for a total amount of just over 415 million BGN.
The main objective of the procedure is to provide an opportunity to significantly increase the share of renewable energy (wind and solar) in the energy mix and to ensure the security and stability of the Bulgarian electricity system. The investment supports the construction and commissioning of a national infrastructure of storage facilities for electricity from renewables with at least 3000 MWh of usable energy capacity at grid level. The storage facilities will be distributed throughout the country and connected to the transmission grid of ESO EAD or to the electricity distribution grid.
