RES have competitive prices. The state should lend a hand to batteries and green hydrogen

Interview of Nikola Gazdov, Chairman of the Association for Production, Storage and Trading of Electricity for the specialized application of the newspaper “24 hours” – “Energy 2021 in transition”

The Association for Production, Storage and Trading of Electricity was established at the end of 2019 with a mission – to improve the business climate for investing in new renewable energy projects in Bulgaria. To a large extent, these projects can now be realized on a market terms, but some obstacles, mainly of a legal administrative nature, still remain. These are procedures that years ago were deliberately complicated in order to slow down the RES sector, says Nikola Gazdov.

The companies in the association are leading players and well known in the sector, they have participated in the implementation of over 15,000 megawatts of renewable energy projects worldwide. These are leading project developers, construction companies, design companies, consulting companies. There are companies that are developing huge investment projects on other continents. Certainly, among the members of APSTE there is a very valuable market experience that can be imported to Bulgaria.

The companies in our association are mainly Bulgaria-based, but we also have several international ones. These are consulting, construction, investment companies that have been working in this sector for years, mainly outside Bulgaria. The experience we have and the knowledge of good practices from the markets in Central Europe, the Americas, Australia, Southeast Asia give us reason to believe that we can improve the investment environment in Bulgaria.
