Sixth Edition of RE-Source Southeast Convenes Regional Energy Leaders in Sofia

The forum will focus on the energy storage revolution and the next generation of hybrid PPAs

Sofia, 18 May 2026 – On 27 and 28 May 2026, Sofia Tech Park will host the sixth edition of the most significant renewable energy event in Southeast Europe – RE-Source Southeast.

The forum will bring together nearly 500 participants from over 20 countries to present workable solutions for industrial decarbonization, the integration of new renewable energy generation and storage systems, as well as more flexible grid management.

The regional conference takes place against the backdrop of Europe’s most severe energy crisis in decades, marked by supply chain disruptions, high price volatility, and rising fossil fuel costs. Amidst this increasing instability, Southeast Europe is establishing itself as one of the most dynamically developing renewable energy markets on the continent.

Over the past 12 months alone, Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania have collectively added nearly 7 GW of new renewable energy capacity. In parallel, the energy storage market is recording historic growth, with over 10 GW of battery energy storage systems (BESS) currently under development in the region.

This unprecedented growth in renewables and storage is fundamentally transforming business models related to electricity generation, trading, and consumption. We are already witnessing the first hybrid PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) that combine renewable energy sources with battery storage systems to improve risk management and mitigate price volatility. These models open up new opportunities for investors, traders, and industrial energy consumers.

Renewable energy already plays a key role in enhancing energy security and lowering electricity prices in Bulgaria and the region,” commented Nikola Gazdov, Chairman of the Association for Production, Storage and Trading of Electricity (APSTE).

The big questions now are whether storage systems will deploy fast enough to help stabilize market prices, and how grid operators will adapt to managing an increasingly decentralized and flexible power system,” Gazdov added.

The two-day conference will feature over 50 speakers and panelists from leading European companies and institutions. Key topics on the agenda include:

  • The role of batteries in balancing the grid and commercial portfolios
  • Investments in grid infrastructure and smart energy systems
  • Trading strategies under dynamic and negative pricing
  • The next generation of hybrid PPAs and renewable corporate sourcing models

For the first time, RE-Source Southeast will feature a specialized technology exhibition dedicated to renewables and energy storage, where leading companies will showcase the latest solutions in battery technologies, flexibility management, and energy digitalization.

The forum also remains one of the premier platforms for business matchmaking and networking in the sector. The dedicated “Buyers’ Bootcamp” for industrial energy consumers and the B2B matchmaking sessions will provide opportunities to forge new partnerships among investors, corporate buyers, and energy traders.

RE-Source Southeast 2026 will take place on 27–28 May at Sofia Tech Park.
