A price cap set on the market revenues of electricity producers

In a meeting held on March 13th 2024, the Council of Ministers set the values used to calculate the market revenue cap for producers of electricity. This decision is in accordance with § 3, it. 2 from § 29 of the Transitional and Final Provisions of the Law on the State Budget of the Republic of Bulgaria for 2024 (promulgated in State Gazette, issue 108 of 30.12.2023).

For producers of electricity from renewable energy sources who do not have a premium compensation contract, the cap on market revenues of 300 BGN /MWh (approx. 150 EUR/MWh) of the value of the electricity produced has been set. Above this cap, producers owe contributions to the Electricity System Security Fund, which provides the necessary financial resources to mitigate the effects of high energy prices.

The Decision enters into force on 1 January 2024 and applies to the revenues of electricity producers for the period 1 January 2024 – 30 June 2024.
